Christmas/Winter Mitten Ornaments (Instructions and Pattern in PDF)

crappy illustration of mitten ornamentsI think I’ve established here on this blog that I love Christmas.  I enjoy pretty much everything about the holiday season, including making decorations, baking, wrapping gifts, and, of course, eating.

A couple of years ago, I was in a crafty mood and decided to make some decorations with the kids.  I ended up doing all the work and they did a great deal of ruining most of what I made, so I got a chance to re-make about 20 pair of tiny little felt mittens to decorate our tree and the house.  My neighbors saw them and loved them, so they commissioned me to make more for them.

I’ve since had to make new ones every year because our cats seemed to love them as well and played with them until they frayed and came unglued.  I keep the pattern around because I always have to make new ones, so I thought I’d share it with you this year.

The mitten don’t require many materials, but they do take a bit of time to finish when you consider time for the glue to dry as well as for any glitter glue or fabric paint you decorate them with.  You’ll need approximately 24 hours for the project from start to finish although the time may vary depending upon what type of glue or embellishment you use.

For a dozen pair of mittens, I estimate the price of materials to be under $5.00.  This includes the cost of glue, ribbon, fabric paint, and felt.  You’ll have plenty of glue and fabric paint leftover for other projects or more mittens.  Feel free to use the mitten pattern on any of your other craft projects as well.

Just follow the link for the Mitten Instructions/Stencil and print out your mitten pattern and get started on your own holiday ornaments.  The pattern and instructions are free and you can pass them along to your friends and family (or just make a bunch of mittens for them and wow them with a great pre-Christmas gift).

If you make some great mittens and want to share them with us, snap a picture and email it to me at redjen0703@gmail.com.  We’ll showcase your projects on the site if you send pics in.
